Throughout my journey as a beauty product reviewer, I have applied many types of serums to my skin. Sometimes, I also forgot what is the function of all those. Most recently, I have had to review both Hyaluronic Acid and Glycolic Acid serums consecutively. I usually, don't bother much about the details, since my skin kind of not really affected too much by trying out those serums.
But then, someone direct message and asked me the question.
" Dear Cindyrina,
Do you mind telling me what is the difference between Hyaluronic Acid and Glycolic Acid for the skin?"
The answer would be simple.
Glycolic acid is an Exfoliator.
Hyaluronic acid is a Hydrator.
So when should you use Glycolic and Hyaluronic in your skincare routine?
In general, Glycolic acid is good for skin with sunspots, hyperpigmentation, and wrinkles. In short - aging skin. It increases the amount of substances that help with skin regeneration and the production of collagen. It is important to apply it correctly to avoid side effects on the skin.
Personally, I applied Glycolic to exfoliate hyperpigmentation on my skin. To play safe, I apply only at night time. Just make sure to apply moisturizer and sunscreen. Moisturiser is really important when applying Glycolic acid to your skin. As mentioned earlier, Glycolic is an Exfoliator. Exfoliation can be quite dehydrating and expose skin to irritation that may lead to skin breakouts if you don't apply it properly.
So far, L'OREAL Paris Glycolic-Bright suits well with my skin and doesn't give any side effects whatsoever. I would say this is a highly recommended and best Glycolic Acid for skin .
As we age, it is natural to lose collagen and hyaluronic acid throughout the aging process and eventually our skin becomes dehydrated easily. Hyaluronic acid increases hydration in the skin. Some beauty avid inject a Hyaluronic acid filler to reduce overall sunken or sagging skin appearance.
Personally, I apply Hyaluronic acid serum for my daytime skincare routine. I am at age of 49 years old this year. My fine lines aren't so obvious since I have been incorporating HA for a few years now. If you are experiencing aging, advisable to start using HA for skin hydration.
I have been using many Hyaluronic acid serums, and so far the best HA for skin is from L'OREAL Paris Revitalift Hyaluronic Acid.
If you are having fine lines, dark spots due to pigmentation, or dull and uneven skin tone - you can try to add Glycolic acid serum for nighttime and Hyaluronic acid serum for your daytime skincare routine.
